Varsity Coach-in-Training (CIT) Program

The Cape Express Soccer Club Varsity CIT Program is designed for CESC Varsity players (U15 and older) to enter the coaching ranks by becoming involved with a youth team. This will not only provide players interested in coaching an opportunity to get involved, see the game from the coaches point of view and give back to the club – it will hopefully help provide the player with more insight into the development of individual skill, team tactics and team cohesion which will hopefully have an effect on their own effectiveness as a player.

Due to the constraints of High School soccer, which all CESC players are encouraged to participate in, this is typically a spring program although players that are interested and able to work out their schedule are certainly invited to participate in the fall.

If accepted into the program, the Varsity CIT would be assigned to a team at least 3 years his/her junior and would assist the coaches and trainer for that team. They would be invited and welcome at all practices, scrimmages and games as their own schedule allows but would be expected to attend at least one team practice a week. The CIT’s own schedule will be taken into account when assigning to a team, if necessary.

The Varsity CIT would need to attend an "F" license coaching course which will result in a youth coaching card, any cost borne by the club. Varsity CIT’s are encouraged to continue their coaching education as they see fit. Each Varsity CIT will receive the trainer/coach warm up and a match quality ball in recognition of their efforts.

A Varsity CIT application should be completed and sent to the Director of Coaching. Please direct any questions you may have to Director of Coaching Mike Hickman.
