CONGRATULATIONS to Cape Express 2005 Boys player Steven Berrodin.
Steven
received word earlier this week that he had made the Region I Olympic
Development Program (ODP) team. Steven’s latest recognition comes after
almost a full year of tryouts and advancement through the ODP program.
It
all began last summer with tryouts at the state level. After making the
state ODP team, Steven trained through the winter with the NJYS ODP
program attending tournaments and events, all while playing with his
Cape Express 2005 team.
This
past July, Steven and the other members of the NJYS ODP program
attended the Regional ID Camp held at Kutztown University. The 4-day
Regional Camp brought together about 250 State ODP players from 12
different state associations – from Maine to West Virginia.
By
the end of the camp, Steven was ranked among the top players in his age
group. As a result, he has been asked to train with the Region I ODP
team this winter. Steven’s first event will be a winter training camp in
Hershey, PA in December.

Steven
may be in uncharted territory. We’ve been racking our brains to come up
with another CESC player who has made it to the Regional level of the
ODP program. Thus far, we haven’t come up with any.
Steven’s
journey isn’t over yet. As always, there are more levels to pursue and
more obstacles (and tryouts) to overcome. Steven’s next goal will be to
be among the selected Regional players who would be invited to the ODP
National program.
We wish Steven luck in his pursuits.
