2008 Charity - Food for the Poor
Body Art with Heart
We are happy to announce that Cape May County Village, in Haiti, sponsored through Food For The Poor, is the official Cape Express Charity, for the second year running. Haiti is the poorest country in our hemisphere, with an 80% unemployment rate.  Almost half the population has never learned to read or write. Many children do not live to be 5 years old, due to lack of food and clean water. Most families live in unsafe huts, made of sticks and mud, with dirt floors.

This year our Charity’s fundraiser will be Body Art with Heart!

Face Painting at $2 per face, as well as Beach Blast and Cape Express (temporary) Tattoos, for $1 each, will be available. All proceeds will benefit families in 3rd world Haiti. Look for our table, which will be located at the North Field near the Main Tent.

Thirteen families received small, but sturdy, cinderblock homes last year, in the Bord de Mer region of Haiti, through this home grown effort. Participating teams in last years Beach Blast bought bracelets to help sponsor the houses, and Soccer Clubs participating in last years George Pratt Memorial Tournament, collected over half a ton of Soccer balls and equipment, which were sent to kids in Haiti.

Phase 2 of the Project will raise funds to pay expenses for 350 primary students from Cape May County Village, Haiti, and the surrounding area, to attend school. Funds raised will provide tuition, books, uniforms, shoes, transportation and a daily meal for each child during 2008-2009.

Together we are making a difference!
